Final Inspection and Getting Ready ( Winter - Spring 2017 - 2018)
Moving is the norm for us. In the 11 years we've been together we had moved out of our respective homes (both renovated beforehand), moved into and renovated 3 more houses before breaking ground in Flesherton and building our current home from scratch.
Each time we moved we purged so you'd think there couldn't be too much left. Not so much, or at least it didn't seem like it. We started by thinking about what we needed to travel full-time. This wasn't a weekend trip, it would be everything we owned in one motor-home. We also needed to keep enough to stage the house for sale while getting rid of everything else.
You likely know I love photography and have scrap-booked since I was a teenager. I also dabble in the fabric arts. I say dabble since it feels like forever since I dedicated much time to the over 20 projects I have on the go. There is some quilting, some applique, some embroidery, some knitting, a fairly recently purchased beginners rug hooking and a fair amount of material in general. I was at this time working on a queen size quilt for our guest room which is ironic since there would be no guest room in the RV.
I started with the photos, taking pictures of each scrapbook page and every loose picture, digitizing them all. Albums of Evan's childhood went to him. copies of pictures relevant to Sarah, my sister Karen or other family/friends went to them. Slides and negatives were put aside until I have time to scan those which aren't already on disk since they don't take up too much space.
We ensured any of the kids' items left with us to store were returned to their rightful owners. A lot of our furniture was second or third or more hand as we'd planned to buy new once the house was finished. We passed on whatever people wanted and got rid of the rest. Some of these things were hard to part with. Our old second hand couch was extremely comfortable and still very sturdy, I would've like to see it reupholstered. Our 2 separate green/gold tub chairs "side of the road finds" were very comfortable and favorites of mine but I'm glad they found a good home with Sarah and Tyler. Favorite smaller items were on display as part of the staging so the decision wasn't made on those yet.
As we worked we collected all the "sell" items in one spot waiting for the snow to melt before having a garage sale.
Life around us went on as well. My Dad had a heart attack Christmas week and didn't look like he would make it back home. He surprised us all by heading home at the end of January. I went to visit often while he was in hospital and once he was home with his wife, Elfie. For anyone who doesn't already know my mother passed away quite a while ago and my Dad remarried, moving to Erin, which is just over an hour from Flesherton. My parents had always traveled and it was understood / expected that we would continue with our plans but I was glad to have this time with my Dad.
I had knee replacement surgery February 8th which slowed progress while I mostly laid on the couch for the first 2 weeks.
Scott was making good headway on the house and it was completely done the last week of March. It took a week or so to get the final inspection and by mid April our dream home was on the market. We moved into the motor home on the driveway to keep the house clean and our things were mostly in there now anyway so it was easier then running back and forth.
Time to head out on a short shakedown cruise.
