First in Fight - Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (April 3, 2019)

It was only after we'd arrived at Twin Lakes RV Resort in Chocowinity, North Carolina that we had a good look at the map to decide what we'd like to see and do.

The town of Washington with a beautiful boardwalk along the waterfront is nearby so we got in some walking, enjoyed the crab sculptures, checked out the boats and watched turtles, still covered in muck, who appear to be "waking up", getting more active and enjoying the spring weather.  Located on the Pamlico River this area is a dream for fisherman and boaters.

Scott's eyes lit up when he heard me say we were within reach of Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks.  After a few years coming to Kitty Hawk working on and solving the problems of flight, Wilbur and Orville Wright made 4 successful flights on December 17th, 1903. Each flight increased in time and length from the first, 12 seconds 120 feet to the fourth, 59 seconds and 852 feet.  The landscape has changed a bit however a National Monument ($10 US per person entry fee) now marks the site with a newly renovated, well thought out museum, flight markers and a large monument erected in 1932.  It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the visit.
