Week 2 - Destruction, Shed Start, Back Pain and Family Fun

| Seriously not upset in this photo... just concentrating on the pic. |
The week got off to a great start with me destructing the "rec room". I got the majority of it done before pulling something in my back from prying strapping attached to the walls with 2 and 3 inch nails. Still managing to do a few things as I recuperate but prying is out for a little bit.
It's been interesting to see how the place was built and the layers of change over time. The plaster was already gone on the walls in this room but they had been strapped out to attach the wall panels. Rooms will be a little bigger when we're done peeling the layers back. Ceiling had cardboard style tiles which were easy to remove. The strapping up there is a job for another day. Thankfully the local dump is about 10 minutes away. We took a load in on Tuesday, 4 on Thursday and another one today. Besides the construction waste, we're still cleaning up around the property as we can.
Had fun with my new phone (Samsung S8...probably old to most of you) and the camera features. Loving the panoramic option, basically allowing a 360 degree pic of the room.

Mackays brought driveway fill throughout the week, usually end of day runs. They expect to dump around 50 loads of island earth to build it back up. To our amazement and delight a bulldozer arrived at 8 am on Saturday morning to level the fill that had been brought in so far. Looking good.![]() |
After cleaning out the junk in October, it's down to some furniture left in the bedrooms upstairs. The beds went for sale on Kijiji, the rest is being cleared out to start the upstairs demolition. We're keeping what we think we can use.
As well as helping with the dump loads, Scott had a few projects on the go.
6 postholes dug for the shed which will be located quite a ways back from the house so we have access when people are renting the house in the summers. He also works in the basement everyday adjusting the jackposts to level the house slowly, leveled a spot to put the motorhome and tuned up the mower.

The shed needs to be finished by the end of the month so Evan and Hope have somewhere to stay when they visit. Don't worry, there will be windows. I did tell them it would be rustic. 😊
