Week 3 - Shed, Driveway, Lots of Mice Have Lived in this House (June 3 - 9, 2019)

Still going strong... well mostly

Kent's Building Centre delivered the components of our shed Monday morning. By the afternoon Scott had concrete poured and saddles set on all 6 postholes he dug last week. Amazing progress.

At the same time, MacKay's was bringing more fill for the driveway and kept coming, alternating between dumps and using the dozer then finally the roller.  Double meaning on the roller since the operator did in fact roll the roller into the ditch. All good in the end though and we have a decent driveway.

Oops!!! Now what??

Gorgeous weather all week... fun watching the fog rolling in and out
Shed is to the left, motorhome on the right
Smooth new driveway
Upstairs, Plaster coming down

Only 2 layers of wallpaper
Lath exposed

The upstairs is pretty much like it was when the house was built. Some rooms have one layer of wallpaper, others 2 but otherwise not much change. The past owners had closed off the upstairs. With heat on downstairs the moisture upstairs really did a number on the plaster. It was already coming down in a couple of spots. Even so it was a dusty job bringing the rest down (not to worry, I wore a mask the whole time). Unfortunately I'd hurt my back last week and it was getting worse so on Thursday I headed to the hospital and a "note" from the doctor so Scott would allow me "light duty" for  few days. LOL!!!! Seriously I was feeling so guilty not being able to continue, I joked with the doctor that I needed a note for my husband.

Scott kept working on the shed... Floor  (12' x 16") done on Tuesday

Walls going up, one at a time

The weather wasn't great on Thursday so Scott moved inside to the "rec" room I started last week.
He took the strapping, plaster and lath off the ceiling. Turns out that there were a few hundred mouse houses between the ceiling and the floor. Mice have long gone but SOOOOO GROSS!!!!

Ceiling Only - Strapping, Plaster, Lath and Mouse Crap = 650 kilos (around 1300 pounds)

Notched Beams

The priority is the shed so we can move our few things out of the house and of course getting the house gutted BUT we can't stand looking at the garbage everywhere. I'm feeling better today (Sunday) so we tacked the smaller shed in the front yard. There were a couple of surprises including a well. Someone had covered it up with beams years ago but they've all rotted out. Everything was garbage except a beautiful wooden buoy we'll find a use for.

Original well... not so safe

It'll look even better once all this going to the dump
2 loads of wood, one of garbage and one of metal
