RV Explorer North Cape, Canadian Potato Museum, Harvesting Irish Moss
| Visiting the Canadian Potato Museum |
Aviva Insurance specializes in RV insurance and we've found it very affordable, especially for full-timers. Additionally, if you are a member of the RV Explorer club there is a 10% discount. We didn't know much about the club when we signed up so when we read in their magazine that the annual Explore Club Rally was being held in Prince Edward Island we thought, why not, and signed up.
Held at Crystal Beach Campground in New Annan, 3 nights full hook-up, 2 dinners, a breakfast, an all-day bus tour to North Cape, Stompin' Tom Centre and the Canadian Potato Museum with lunch as well as entertainment cost $435 CAD plus taxes for the 2 of us. It was pretty good value overall and we hoped to meet people from across the country.
The bus trip covered territory we'd already been over but we enjoyed seeing everything again and learning more history from the tour guide.
There were a few things we didn't see the first time around:
The Stompin' Tom Centre houses a museum and information on Stompin' Tom's life. He spent time in PEI and the Atlantic Provinces in general when he was younger. The visit included a meal (dinner theatre style) and a very good entertainer. He was playing and singing.....you guessed it... Stompin' Tom songs. Everyone sang along. Lots of fun.
My last job in Ontario was for Gemini in Neustadt which manufactures sign letters for sign companies across Canada. I remember this being a rush job to be in place for the opening July 1st, 2017.
Harvesting of Irish Moss used as a thickener in things like ice cream. Raked and shoveled off the beach after a storm at North Cape.

Back at the campground there were some activities including my first attempt at rock painting.

Also an "Under the Sea" themed costume party. Only a dozen or so people got dressed up but we had fun with our Pinterest inspired Jellyfish costumes.
The weather wasn't great so the usual evenings around the fire which help people get to know each other only happened once and people tended to stay with the ones they already knew. Everyone was from Ontario except for one lady from Nova Scotia who was there with someone from Ontario. Most people had driven down for the rally and weren't even staying longer to visit the island or the East Coast which we thought was a bit odd since they were mostly all retired. Anyway it was good to experience a different type of rally.
We enjoyed it okay but won't likely go to another one with Explorer RV Club.
