Belmont Provincial Park James Yeo House and Shipbuilding - July 2018
Another wonderful day trip from Cedar Dunes. This time up through Bayside, Belmont Provincial Park, Tyne Valley and the James Yeo House and Shipbuilding Museum
Looking out over Malpeque Bay
So many abandoned buildings
Stunning Catholic Church in Bayside
Belmont Provincial Park is located on Malpeque Bay. A spacious park with great views (you're surprised, I know), it is day use only. You can launch a kayak from here, watch the swallows in the cliffs, have a picnic, walk the beach. Wonderful spot.
We drove on through Tyne Valley. No pictures but there was a good restaurant/pub called the Backwoods Burger Craft Beer Cookhouse here. Important to know since there isn't much to eat anywhere else in this area. Tyne Valley hosts an annual International Oyster Shuckers competition in their arena. Reason to go back.
Next stop was a place Scott did remember. The James Yeo house built in 1865 along with the Shipbuilding Museum and School. James Yeo was around when Scott's great great grand-father John Hunter-Duvar (1821 - 1899) came to PEI from England. He would have had a similar lifestyle and likely come in contact with each other through business.
Having done quite a bit of research into the Hunter-Duvar family tree it was fun to see how James Yeo and his family lived.
This room looks a lot like the upstairs bedrooms in our house just in a lot better shape.
The Shipbuilding Museum above and Red School below.
Green Park campground is also here although we didn't stay there.
