Shut The Front Door... and All The Windows (Sep 29 - Oct 9, 2019)

We did it!!
All the windows and doors are in as well as sealed around the edges.
It is hard to express what a giant relief this is. The house is still a shell however with this huge step completed we can work out of the upcoming cold and wet.

The East wall didn't need much repair which helped it go pretty fast outside of A LOT of up and down the ladders to work on the 2nd floor from outside. Pictures are almost the same as previous posts so I didn't figure they'd be too interesting.

Much more interesting LOL!! are two small rug hooking projects I got out and finished over the past couple of weeks. I've had both for awhile but have never done any others so they're a little rough or maybe I was going for a more primitive style :-) Either way they are done and I'm happy with them. Favorite is the flowers for sure. I'll definitely do more hooking(the rug kind) when I get the other projects with me completed.

While Scott was working on windows , he really just needed me to cleanup behind him and when putting the actual windows in,  I took up the remaining floor boards and joists extending back from the original staircase. Without the stairs to support the floor here, we needed to reinforce the floor and support it differently.

Floor at back and to the right needed to come up
3-ply 2 x 12's reinforce the floor

The right hand window on the south wall was pretty much rotted out from under the window to the ground. Scott replaced the whole thing.

The wall holding up the right hand window was extremely rotten

Rot below the window

Rot removed and wall frame rebuilt
Front door in and more rebuilt on the right

This old sign was used on the other window - recycling was alive and well

We had some colder days and a lot of condensation in the motor home which even caused some wet clothes and mold. Time to get out the dehumidifier and I've started lining the cabinets with Reflectix ( using foam to keep it from touching the wall for a better vapour barrier).

Space age cabinets

It was pretty drafty again with these two big windows open. They are each 100" wide and 48" high. Each of the new windows is a set of 3 single hungs which came in one piece. We took the bottom part of the "hungs" out to make it a little lighter - still not light.

Drafty

The next day we got them in. No action shots of the install unfortunately as it took all my strength to lift my side up in the hole.

Getting the Typar up in the wind is always fun

Scott could hear what his Dad would have said " How much is Stewart & Beck paying you for the advertising" LOL!!

Scott putting the screens back in

Happy and a bit tired

Not sure if the haze is dust or sun - view from inside

Looks like a real house build now
Steps and a landing to make getting in easier
WooHoo!!!

Canadian Thanksgiving is this weekend. My sister Karen and her hubby Scott are coming to visit so tomorrow is all about cleanup and getting the place comfortable to sleep in.
We are so looking forward to a little break.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!
