First Interior Wall In Place - Very Re-energizing (Oct 21 - 27, 2019)
Scott was particularly tired by Friday but getting the first interior wall in has re-energized him. We just love seeing the progress and it's really starting to show.
Long day for me Monday working a polling station for the first time. I was in Murray Harbour by 7:30 am start not home until 11:30. Luckily the people I was working with were fun and voters were steady.

| Getting the screen room post holes ready |
Scott dug 4 post holes on Monday then filled them with concrete on Tuesday. These will become the foundation of our screen room. Having the post holes ready means we can build the screen room in the spring without needing to wait for the frost to come out of the ground. This extremely physical work really takes the stuffing out of him though.
Taking advantage of the great weather, I sanded the 10 maple tabletops we bought on the weekend. Took about a half hour per top and they turned out great. Edges will be cut off when we put them in place as our kitchen counter top so I didn't sand the edges.

Fantastic progress inside - Scott finished laying the plywood over the existing floor boards. I'll finish screwing them down next week. He also strapped out the ceiling upstairs, put up vapour barrier and drywall. It's a little warmer without all the air escaping through the attic and roof.

At first glance the upstairs looks a lot more squat with the drywall in place partly since the bedroom windows are so big and seem close to the ceiling but mostly because our eyes were used to seeing the top of the attic. After getting used to it we find it much more cosy.

Meanwhile outside I pulled nails out of some more beams and boards we would like to reuse.

The layout we've been tweaking for months is set. We chalked it out on the floor and the first wall is up. When complete there will be 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with showers (one is an ensuite, the 2nd shared) and a laundry. Originally there were 4 bedrooms and a storage area. One room had a small closet where the few clothes they had were hung on hooks. The new rooms will have closets or a wardrobe. The 4th bedroom has been converted to the bathrooms / laundry. Not huge but will work just fine.

It is sooooooo exciting to get the first wall up. As tired as he was, Scott was re-energized and really wanted to keep building. He was also looking forward to knocking off a little early and enjoying a few beers and a fire while the weather is still nice if getting a bit cool.
Mesmorized watching the smoke slowly seep through the wood, sometimes even disappearing before coming back stronger. It took at least 15 minutes for fire to start coming through this plank. No wonder house fires are so hard to put out.
We went into Montague Saturday, picked up pocket door hardware and framing which will be put in place downstairs next week. Finally got around to fixing Scott's moms laundry line. Wish we had put it up earlier so she could've used it through the summer but better late than never.
It's a leisurely Sunday today. There's a crustless broccoli quiche in the oven for breakfast . Scott is planning on cutting more of the path through the woods at the back and looking for cranberries. Me, I'll be quite happy hanging out inside, getting some knitting done and working on the electrical plan since we are almost ready for the electrician.
Have a wonderful day and I hope you are enjoying my blog.
