Kitchen Takedown - Floors Coming Up - Concrete Flowing (July 21 - 28, 2019)

It's been a busy week. First thing Monday morning the excavator knocked down the kitchen and loading it into a large truck. It ended up being a more than a truck load which wasn't a problem as the barn was also cleaned up and carted off. We love it all cleaned up and really feel the whole project is more manageable without the kitchen.

With the kitchen gone there is a big hole. The kitchen portion will be filled in and the screen room will go on top but first we need to build a wall to continue the foundation. Scott also built 4 forms under the house and is building up block buttresses to support and hold back the foundation walls.

While Scott was working away in the basement I was upstairs taking down the final strapping and then started taking up the flooring. We're changing the layout so the flooring won't work the way it is. Surprisingly it is relatively easy to take up. An inch thick, old hard pine. Hopefully we can plane off the crown and get the paint off in order to use it again.

Fun to see how they etched numbers into the roof beams

Went for a walk around the backyard... lots of beautiful daisies

We ordered a pump truck for the concrete and worked together to fill and screed the concrete.

All the rooms had some sort of old vinyl "carpets" on them. One had an oil cloth under the vinyl. It is pretty embedded into the wood.  I even found a 1918 Dime between the two.

Thanks for introducing it to him, Ken.

Happy end to the work week

Saturday morning we headed in to meet family and watch number 10 - Emily play soccer. Hung around the campground with Pam and Trevor, picked up lobster dinners at the Northumberland Fisheries Festival in Murray River - $20 for a complete meal. Veda and Scott loved it.

Sunday was a work day for us.. Scott replaced worn parts in the RV toilet. I started cleaning out the basement and then we both finished up moving the rest of the blocks and concrete.
All ready for the stone slinger coming tomorrow.

It was a gorgeous day and we ended up spending an hour at the beach to relax at the end.
Beautiful and warm today.
We love living 5 minutes from the beach.
