May...Front Porch Gardens Galore (May 4th - June 15th, 2021)

It's been a busy but enjoyable month. Finally at the stage where the jobs are smaller, only taking a day or two for each stage, sometimes not even that long. Scott has had enough of the long jobs, ie.. one month to drywall type of jobs. We make a plan for the week and adjust based on weather. If it's 30 degrees which isn't even guaranteed in August, we head to the beach. If it's raining we work in the RV or inside. If it's gorgeous, and we've had a few of those days, we're out in the garden or working on the porch.

Before we look at those things though, I need to share the picture above.

BNI (Amazon delivery people) "delivered" a package. Note distance from the house and proximity of package to ditch. We were just happy we happened to be going out that afternoon and saw the package at the end of the driveway. We had not received a delivery email.

LOL!! Seriously!!!!!

For Mothers Day we built and painted this raised garden for his mom.

Veda has done a great job growing veggies.

Sister-in-law Pam was offered us quite a few hosta's inspiring me to start digging.
Let the flower gardens begin.

Here's the progress so far. Eventually it will continue around the front of the porch too.

Scott started the month focused on the front porch and did a fabulous job.

Love being able to walk out the front door
Painting of the porch has begun but not pictured yet

Porch is ready for a roof - it will match the house roof

Thinking ahead to RVing, Scott ordered an e-bike. We wanted folding fat bikes to easily be able to take them with us and for easier handling of gravel and sand. He went with a GoTrax and despite already having made a few modifications is happy with it. I can ride it too but the crossbar is uncomfortably high. I'm looking forward to getting one more suited to me.. should arrive in July sometime.

It got very warm here for the few days which enticed Emily and her friend to explore their creek. Water was freezing but they didn't mind - spent a lot of time in a hot bath when they came inside.

Sometimes you've just got to stop what you are doing and clean out the shed. What a mess - Scott had been throwing stuff in it all winter so there was piles of cardboard and other junk. Didn't take as long as we thought and we have our shed back.

We'd (no pun intended) planned a veggie garden for this year and thought we might build up to selling some next year. In a very sudden turn of events, the garden grew exponentially and we've signed up to sell veggies at a new market in Point Prim.

Friendly neighbourhood tiller

Some weed control between the beds

The blackflies were pretty bad for a few days.
Luckily these hats came with the house.

We had trouble getting traditional compost and went with a seashell compost. It has a fair number of lobster bands(rubber) along other sea creature claws, etc..  Good way to use the waste from seafood processing plants. I think it would be good mixed in with earth, not the best for what we did though - doesn't hold moisture very well.

Never get sick of the view - had some really gorgeous day recently

The "Well" garden is getting going (Original Well which was filled in)

Build steps on the deck - CHECK... Ellen still needs to stain though :-)

Lovely shot of Julia in England with a Poppy grown from seeds she got from my grandmother.

Evan sent me a picture with his new Tesla and Covid haircut LOL!!
Proud of you Evan.

30 degree (Celsius for our American friends) is unusual in July and August here and almost unheard of in May - You bet we knocked off early and hit the beach a few times. Water was ice cold but we went in very briefly anyway.

As an aside - PEI announced today that they are moving the opening to fully vaccinated people up from September 12th to July 28th - it made me a little emotional... finally seeing some normalcy returning.
Can't wait to see people "from away".

Have a wonderful start to summer everyone.
