January Progress (Jan 3 - 24, 2020)

Germans wish you a Merry Christmas and "einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr" which translates into " a good slide into the New Year". We've slid into the New Year easily, dreaming of escaping to the sunny south which is sadly but definitely not happening this year. Instead, we know we are lucky to be in a safe place as vaccines are steadily being given and life is basically work, work, relax, repeat.

Thought I'd share the progress on the house this month so I don't fall too far behind.

Mackay's came to clear out the driveway for the first time January 3rd this year. After that initial dump of snow (about a foot) they haven't been back. We've had the odd small flurry, plenty of rain and mild weather. The driveway is pretty rutted. It's snowing again today and we're hoping it stays cold enough to keep the driveway firm.

View of snowplow through the screen room. Hmmm, there was a fair bit of snow in the room.

The wind has taken out most of the screens in the screen room which means we've had a few bluejays in there. Luckily, they seem to find their way out without too much trouble. Scott will be redoing them in the spring, splitting the windows up so they aren't so vulnerable.

 Yummy Homemade Lentil Soup

The big news is that the countertop is all installed and in use now. Scott used the maple tables we bought last year, securing them together with dowels.

We managed to find this pine wall unit on the local buy and sell. It's a little bigger than we'd planned but it's done (ie. we don't need to build it... woohoo!!) and holds a pile of dishes.

We got the electrician back to complete work since the kitchen we done.

Loving the hall storage and pantry (door to be installed)

Standard plastic bulb holders are being replaced by actual fixtures.

The mudroom drywall has been finished and painted (it's a light yellow - hard to see on the picture). We'll wait for better weather before tiling the floor in here.

Future guests will be happy to hear that interior doors are going in :-)
All the trim was delivered this week is next on the agenda.

All of what you see above is Scott's doing
outside of my input with what goes where, colour and overall design which we share in and discuss as we go.

I pretty much just go to work and come home. I do enjoy my co-workers, and being able to "marvel" at customer comments or requests.  The winner this week was the guy who asked me if I thought it would be okay if he cut the sides off a foam brush so it would fit into the stain can he was holding..... OR, I suggested, "you could just buy a smaller one".

Sometimes, I'm happy that the mask is covering my expression however I'm not sure that my eyes / eyebrows don't give my thoughts away. LOL!! Gotta have some fun.

Yesterday I ate my lunch down at the river where the ice was just forming.

Love being so close to the water.
