Summers a Wrap (August 17 - September 27, 2020)

August and September have been mostly beautiful. Scott has been working steadily on the clapboard siding, staining both sides of every piece before putting it up. Sometimes, it seems to be taking forever but there is so much of it and we are really seeing progress now.

Strapping to leave air space behind the clapboard, window/door trim and frieze boards along the edge of the gable, staining and nailing it up.

His knees and legs got a workout doing this wall

East side completed

North Wall getting close - Scott will rent a Skyjack to do the back dormer and above the screenroom

In keeping with our aim to take advantage of great weather days when I was off we enjoyed a day at Basin Head. So strange not to see anyone jumping off the bridge. It isn't allowed this year because the water isn't deep enough - would need to be dredged again.
It'll be interesting to see if the PEI government does it next year or not.

Empty Basin Head Bridge

Our nephew, Matt and his family booked a week camping at Marco Polo Land and we joined them Thursday night.  Unknown to Matt or us, his brother Jim and family arrived Thursday as a surprise as well. So great to see and spend time with them all. We had a nap each afternoon to recoup LOL!!

Liam - youngest in the group - So cute

The nights were pretty cold for August but we had fun popping popcorn and twirling sparklers.

There are plenty of activities for the kids and they loved trying them all out.

Cousins having the great time together.

Early September outing with Veda to Victoria by the Sea and Canoe Cove.

Veda enjoying the fish and chips at Richards

Veda remembers coming to this house when she was a child and her uncle lived here and ran the store in it. It's right on the water and has sunk at least 3 feet. The current owner, who lives in the United States, inherited it from his mother and doesn't appear to be interested in selling. It is still full of furniture but unlivable now. Sadly an eyesore for Victoria by the Sea.

This car had Florida plates and signs up to advise Islanders they had self-isolated - Good idea I think given the feeling towards off island plates during Covid.

Plenty of colourful homes in this little village

Lunchtime Seagull visit and tomatoes ripening at home

We headed out kayaking to the Murray Islands - 15 minutes away

And a little seaglass collecting on the way back home.

The weather is turning and I've been working on getting a few inside projects done.
Purchased in Australia in 1993, I'm proud to say my cross-stitch Rosella is done. Woohoo!!

Before (gold) and after of a mirror which had been left in the house. A little spray paint and I love it.
Will hang in the main floor 2 - piece bathroom when we're done.

Our garden has been producing well over the summer and the push has been on to store the Zucchini (bread ...Yummy, and frozen), Onions (drying under the stairs), Peppers, Cucumbers and Tomatoes.

Morning barge being towed on the Strait. It was a lot closer in when we first saw it.

Summer is a Wrap - Enjoying the fall weather and looking forward to visiting
Cape Breton in a couple of weeks. Talk soon.
