Mattress Delivery Adventure ... Hot Tub in the House (Feb 10 - Mar 01, 2020)

We'd been looking forward to getting off the sofa bed and onto a mattress upstairs. That turned out to be a bit of an adventure.... Saturday evening I barely got up to the house after work. It was a beautiful sunny day but very windy day and a pile of snow had blown onto the driveway.  It did not let up overnight and it was very unusual Mackays hadn't been by to clean the driveway out. Knowing the mattress delivery was Sunday afternoon I left a message asking if Mackays could come by. The delivery truck arrived and the snow was still pretty high, it wouldn't make it in. We decided we'd drive out to meet them and got stuck but Scott was very determined not to sleep on the sofabed another night. He dug the car out while I hiked down to talk to the drivers. The snow was so wind packed the car kept riding up on top of it, lifting the back wheels off the ground. When the car got stuck the second time the delivery driver suggested we could leave the mattress with a neighbour. Good idea so I called the neighbour who agreed and the truck tried to get up their driveway. No luck either and had to back out. Meanwhile Scott got stuck a third time, dug the car out and finally made it to the road about 45 minutes after we left the house. We strapped the mattress to the roof of the car, and drove back up, stopping before the corner to dig it out properly so we wouldn't get stuck again.  A couple of hours later Mackays came by and apologized profusely... they live on the same road but are more protected and didn't realize anyone was snowed in until they went to visit a relative who turned out to be snowed in.

We got the mattress upstairs and the driveway was cleared by nightfall.  All is well that ends with a great nights sleep.

Master coming together

The red wardrobe is in the master temporarily and we're still looking for side tables but this bed is way more comfortable than the sofabed.

Fun trip to the thrift store scored some pretty dishes to use in our country kitchen.

My work at Kent's started February 10th and has been going well. I'm really enjoying the paint department... helping people narrow done their colour choices. Standing on concrete floors 8 hours a day is taking it's toll so I'm sleeping very well but a bit achy at times. The people are friendly and I like the boss - can't ask for much more.

Master Shower and toilet

Scott as always has been working full-time on the house.
The master shower and toilet are in place and usable.

With the ice constantly shifting we headed back down to explore the shoreline at
Northumberland Provincial Park.

Floors in both guestrooms completed with original flooring.
The pine standing up was purchased for the hall and acclimatizing.

We see our resident fox often at the moment. This time he was very interested in the post. Another time he tried to sneak up on a squirrel who made it to safety up a tree.

My current refurb project is a dresser which was left in the house. Not much progress yet and but I'm looking forward to getting it done for the master.

Before (almost) ... remembered to take a shot once I started sanding.

Last Sunday Scott convinced me to head out back on the snowshoes. I paid for it and was in bed by 7:30 pm on Monday but we had fun checking out the property.

On Wednesday (day off) we picked up the floor sander and encountered fog coming off the strait on the way home. Beautiful.

Eerie beauty

It took 2 days for Scott to sand the floors, they look great. He still needs to protect the hall and one room with Varathane but otherwise all the flooring upstairs is done.

Drywall is next

Still some ice left on the trees after freezing rain and ice pellets

Scott has been working hard and mostly housebound. It's been a slog and hard on his body working on the house day in and day out particularly when some mundane tasks (ie.. plugging the floor) make it too easy for his mind to wonder and remember the fun of our travels last year.  This motivated him to pull out the blow up hot tub we had in Flesherton, build enough of the screen room deck to put it on yesterday and get it set up today.

Making sure it won't leak
Cutting insulation for the base and top

Setting it in place
Ready to fill

You've got to love these blow up hot tubs.
Not as well insulated but easy to move and set up.
We hope to be enjoying it tonight.
