Skiing, Laundry, Master Bath and a New Job (Jan 24 - Feb 02, 2020)
Saturday was absolutely gorgeous. Sunny, -3 Celsius, No wind to speak of and fun company. PEI has a surprising number of hills just west of Charlottetown and even boasts a ski hill. Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park formerly known as Brookvale. This was my first time skiing since just before my knee replacement two years ago. I was a bit nervous and that knee certainly doesn't much like to turn left anymore but overall it wasn't too bad. The hill is similar to Chicopee in Kitchener so not very high but the conditions could not have been better, we had a great time with Jacob, Emily and Trevor.

My next project when we left off last week was to revive an old foot board to use as a head board in the master. The original look was a bit dated and worn so I decided on the distressed look using 2 colours of chalkpaint and here's how to turned out.

There have been several pictures with a white stove sitting in the middle of the room. I'd been trying to sell it for 2 weeks with many people asking about it but no one coming to look. At $50 we figure people didn't believe it worked. In the end, Trevor came to help us move our washer/dryer upstairs, the washer was a beast and I was very happy not to have to wrestle it upstairs with Scott myself. They also brought in heavy shower doors I'd picked up in Charlottetown and took the old stove outside ready to take to the dump. Naturally the next day, someone called for the stove. It ended up going for $20 and we were just happy that it wasn't going to the landfill.

I am thrilled to have the laundry machines in place and hooked up. We haven't had a machine for over 2 years and while travelling we would go to a laundromat, use 2-3 machines and get all the laundry done. Here I've been doing laundry and Scott's moms which has been great but I've always been reluctant to do too many loads on the same day. Now I can do laundry to my hearts content.
Scott planned to get the master bath tiled early in the week but luckily he decided to read up on the shower doors we planned and realized that the shower base wasn't level which would cause major problems with the precise fitting door. He fixed the issue and started tiling a couple of days later.

Meanwhile in the guest bath I spent a couple of hours putting together the IKEA vanity. There was no stress involved. I just took my time and followed the instructions.
Looks great.

| IKEA vanity build for guest bathroom |
As anyone who has tackled a renovation or house build knows... it always costs more than you think. This happens every time and is no different this time. In order to make the most of my time and to offset the extra expenses I applied for a job with Kent Building Centre a couple of weeks ago. On Thursday I found out that I got the position and start on February 10th. It's a full-time job in Montague beginning in the paint department. The store is fairly small so everyone is a jack of several trades there. I'm a bit sad to lose some of the freedom I've enjoyed but I'm excited to be working somewhere I'll be moving all day (great exercise) and to be ensuring we can enjoy doing the things we want to do down the road. As it happens I'm at Kents several times a week picking up supplies so it's not that different, I'll just be staying longer LOL!!
Master bedroom is drywalled and ready to be taped and mudded. Outside of the ceiling it doesn't need to be a perfect job since we're cladding the walls with wood.
I spent Friday in Charlottetown looking for work pants and safety shoes (still looking for those). Also picked up a toilet and mirror which will be installed this week. This room is coming together.
We don't often go out but we had a blast on Friday night. Went to see a comedian " Jimmy the Janitor" in Montague. It was a packed house, I'd say around 300 people and he was hilarious. Great laugh. Thanks Trevor and Pam for inviting us along. Good clean fun.
